Naveen writes to Modi for Cash Disbursement of Pension under NSAP

ONI Bureau: Odisha Government on Thursday urged the Centre for making cash disbursement of pension under NSAP scheme as beneficiaries are not willing to accept pension through banks and post offices because of inadequacies in their services.

Opposing Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) compliant system, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said not to impose the bank payment system on beneficiaries.

It is to be noted that the State has been disbursing pension in cash on 15th of every month at the Gram Panchayats and Urban Local Body (ULB) headqaurters in an open and transparent manner.

The National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) which came into effect from 1995, aims at ensuring minimum standard for social assistance in addition to the benefits to the elderly, widows and persons with disabilities in the form of social pensions.
