JSPL reaches Power Generation of 37.6 bn Units Per Year

The completion of Jindal Power Limited’s (a subsidiary of JSPL) landmark 2400 MW expansion project at Tamnar (Chhattisgarh) has resulted in JSPL Group’s Installed Generation Capacity in Raigarh belt reaching 4294 MW, thereby achieving UMPP scale.

With the completion of the mega expansion project, whose 4th Unit of 600 MW was synchronized today, the Groups installed capacity now stands at 37.6 Billion Units of Electricity annually, i.e. 3.58% of India’s Electricity Generation in 2014-15. The completion of 2400 MW expansion project takes Jindal Power Limited’s (JPL) installed capacity to 3400 MW, thereby making it the largest power producer in the State of Chhattisgarh.

“Jindal Power Ltd’s generation capacity of 3400 MW, i.e. 29 Bn Units of electricity per annum, is a step forward to build a nation of our dreams. The state-of-the-art power facility built using fully indigenous turbine technology in a record time and is truly a hallmark specimen of ‘Making In India’, said Mr. Ravi Uppal, MD & Group CEO – JSPL. “The completion of our ambitious 2400 MW expansion in record time gives a significant boost to our confidence to deploy our skills and energy to operate these plants at optimal load factors”, he added.

JPL’s generation capacity of 29 Billion Units now stands at 2.86% of India’s electricity generation (1048 Billion Units in FY 2014-15). The installed generation capacity of Jindal Power at 3400 MW has the potential to cater to the peak power demand of the City of Mumbai. Based on national per capita consumption of electricity at 957 KWH (Source: CEA Report), the installed capacity of JPL can cater to over 3 crore Indians. In addition, JSPL has installed Captive Power Generation Capacity of 854 MW; 540 MW at Dongamahua and 354 MW at Raigarh. JSPL Group has created over 20,000 jobs and anchors a socio-economic ecosystem for 50,000 families.

“Jindal Power’s current thermal power generation portfolio of 3400 MW has established benchmarks of project execution, operational efficiencies and record turn-around times in the Indian Power sector”, said Mr. Ravi Uppal, MD & Group CEO – JSPL. “With the progressive measures being introduced by the Government for ensuring abundant and affordable availability of coal to power producers, we remain optimistic about achieving optimum levels of power generation in the near future. We are committed to participate towards the fulfillment of the vision of our Prime Minister to provide 24×7 power to all households, industry and farmers”, he added.

The project execution capability of JPL has been duly recognized by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) by conferring two awards for “Early Completion of Thermal Power Projects”. In 2013-14, the second unit (2×600 MW) was awarded the Gold Shield along with the Silver Shield for the first unit (1×600 MW) under a Ministry of Power initiative for recognizing meritorious performance in power sector. The first and second units of the 4×600 MW plant have already achieved full load operation. The third unit was synchronized in FY 2014 in just 16.2 months from start of boiler erection. The fourth unit achieved full load operation within 23 months from the commencement of boiler erection.
