Facebook Debate: Why Modi Govt fails to control rising Food Prices?

The NDA Government led by Narendra Modi had put the Congress on back foot with its relentless campaign on the issue of price rise ahead of 2014 polls and promised to control the spiraling food prices. But, even after two years in office, it has not been able to contain the rising prices, leading to the discontent among the people.

Shishir Gamang: All the States have different laws & system and the Central Government has no mechanism to control it directly. It is 100% dependent on the State Governments for the implementation of price controlling measures.

Rahul Barrick: Unless the government is prepared to change its policy of monetary inflation and opens up the entire system of money and banking to the free market, it will continue to be incapable of addressing the problem of price rise.

Akash Sharma: Lack of economic policies and rudderless budget can be attributed to rising food prices.

Chennubhotla Bapujee: Lack of govt controlled/organised procurement, storage, transportation and distribution system as otherwise private firms are exploiting leading uncontrollable price rise. Take the case of tomatoes (grown abundantly in Karnataka and bordering AP), Onions (Maharashtra and Bordering Telangana) were not procured at reasonable price for the farmers, which could have been marketed at optimum cost benefiting the people.
