State Can’t Promote Students Without Final Exams: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court, on Friday, ordered that no state promote students without holding final exams. However, the states and union territories can approach the University Grants Commission (UGC) for postponing the final exams.

The bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan refuses to quash the UGC guidelines. After two days of hearing, the Supreme Court had reserved its verdict on the pleas of students against UGC’s mandating to conduct the final exams.

As per UGC’s directive dated July 6 , final year exams should be held by September 30.
