Bodo Militants kill 35 Tribals in Assam

In a shocking development tonight, over 500 National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants opened indiscriminate fire, killing at least 35 tribal people, including women and children in Assam. 30 people have been killed in Sonitpur district, while 5 were killed in Kokrajhar district.

The villages, which came under attack were Saralpara village in Kokrajhar district and Santipur village in Sonitpur district. The NDFB militants, who launched the attack, are opposed to peace talks. The centre has deployed paramilitary forces in the areas and allowed the Assam government to use their services. A red alert has been issued across Assam following the deadly attack.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack and assured all help to the Assam Government to deal with the crisis. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Assam tomorrow to take stock of the situation.

Modi tweeted, “Killing of innocent people in Sonitpur & Kokrajhar is an act of cowardice. Our thoughts & prayers are with the families of the deceased.”

“I spoke to Assam CM Shri Tarun Gogoi & Home Minister Rajnath ji. Rajnath ji will travel to Assam and take stock of the situation,” he added further.

“I strongly condemn the killing of tribals in Assam by NDFB militants. Killing innocent people for any cause can never be justified,” tweeted Rajnath Singh.

“The Centre is monitoring the situation in Assam and the paramilitary forces have been rushed to the spot,” he added.
