Former President APJ Abdul Kalam dies at 83 of Cardiac Arrest

In a sad development tonight, former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam passed away at the age of 83 in Shillong. Dr. Kalam was delivering a lecture at the IIM, Shillong when he collapsed and immediately rushed to Bethany Hospital.

The doctors of the hospital and a medical team from the Indian Army and IAF tried their best to save his life, but in vain. The doctors confirmed that he died of a massive cardiac arrest. The sad demise came at around 6:40 PM. The doctors found no sign of life when he was brought to the hospital, but they confirmed it at around 8:54 PM.

Dr. Kalam, was the 11th President of India, who served from 2002 till 2007. A Nuclear Scientist by profession, Dr. Kalam was the key man behind the 1998 Pokhran nuclear test.

Known as the Missile Man of India, APJ Abdul Kalam served as a Scientist and Science Administrator, mainly at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He had received Bharat Ratna in 1997. He had received Doctorate from 40 Universities across the world. Dr. Kalam had written a number of book, including ‘Inspiring Thoughts’, ‘Mission India’, ‘The Luminous Sparks’, Ignited Minds’, ‘Wings of Fire’ and ‘India 2020’.

India has lost a great son and distinguished personality at his demise. The entire country has plunged into grief and sorrow at this shocking news.

President Pranab Mukherjee, PM Narendra Modi, Vice President Dr. Hamid Ansari, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and many other eminent personalities have condoled his sudden demise. A seven-day national mourning had been announced. He will be created with full state honours at Rameswaram.
