All JD (U) MLAs present at the meeting, unanimously supported the sacking of Jitan Ram Manjhi and election of Nitish Kumar. Earlier, Jitan Ram Manjhi had sought the dissolution of Bihar Assembly, which was rejected by 21 Ministers at the Cabinet Meeting. Only 7 Ministers supported his move. Still, Manjhi had approached the Governor, recommending the resolution of Bihar Assembly.
The JD(U) leaders will meet Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi to apprise him of the situation. It would be interesting to see what action Jitan Ram Manjhi and his supporters will take and whether the BJP will back him or not.
Nitish Kumar, who ruled Bihar from 2005 till 2014, had resigned following the defeat in Lok Sabha polls and appointed Jitan Ram Manjhi as the CM. Later, he and Manjhi developed a bitter relationship. It was speculated that Manjhi had colluded with BJP leaders to divide the JD (U) in Bihar, which has the support of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD.
