CII organizes IR Colloquium 2015 in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Sep 22: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Odisha State Office has organized IR Colloquium 2015 here at Swosti Premium today. The event was organized with a theme of ‘managing employee relations better’ in four sessions – CEO’s expectations enabling future growth, IR Best Practices  and Roadmap to continuous improvement, upcoming roles and challenges of Trade Unions in the competitive business environment and Government inference.

Chief Secretary of Odisha government G C Pati graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In the beginning, Chairman, CII, Odisha State Council D S Ravindra Raju welcomed the guests and dignitaries in his welcome address on the occasion. Chairman of CII North Odisha Zonal Council Rajdeep Mohanty presented the theme of the event. Special address was presented by Principal Secretary of Department of Labour & ESI, G Srinivas.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary GC Pati focused on the industrial policy and effective implementation of various government policies to boost industrial development in Odisha. He also said that good industrial relations compulsory for the growth and development in the current scenario.

Pati, thanked CII & Dept. of Labour & ESI for organising such a Conference. He said Organisation in today’s scenario are handling IR pretty well, limited to its boundaries. But now time has come were organizations should learn to handle IR even out of their boundaries.

He said that the hard work put in by the government will born fruits shortly with better working environment for workers & better and easier process for Corporate. And here CII can play a vital role in bonding all of them together. Shri Pati also congratulated Principal Secretary labour & ESI as Odisha has being declared 7th best state in ease of doing business in country. The concept of Tripartite (3 parties i.e. Industry, Trade Union & Government) Conference was also praised by him. He said CII being the pioneer Industry Body in promoting all the stake holders; CII should have such more conferences in State.

A long-term strategy for improved industrial relations is crucial for sustainable economic growth and development. The industrial relations scenario in the country is changing and both Management and Trade Unions need to take those incremental steps to engage with each other in continued manner.

There are many successful examples in Indian Industry where Management and Employee have together embarked on the journey to great success. It is important for all stake holders to analyze Cause & Effects, emerging trends, and response needed to ensure harmony. This will felicitate creation of more employment opportunity, competitiveness and fairness resulting in better shop floor climate and reduce social tensions.

The session CEO’s expectations  showcased the top business leaders expectation from people who are managing day-to-day operations, Gen next workforce and Trade Union Leadership to successfully curve the balance between organization and employees’ growth through IR pursuits. This session was addressed by Dean XLRI, Jamshedpur Prof Pranabesh Ray, Regional Executive Director (East-II) Arvind Kumar, Executive Director of Visa Streel Manoj Kumar and Head Hirakud Hindalco Complex R K Gupta.
