CM Akhilesh Yadav attends KIIT-MUN in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Oct 31: Shri Akhilesh Yadav, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh visited Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) and KIIT University on October 30, 2015. Shri Yadav went around various facilities of KISS and addressed its 25,000 indigenous students.

KISS has provided best platform for all round development of tribal boys and girls, he said in his address to the students. They should put in hard work with all sincerely and utilize this opportunity to the fullest, he advised. “I had heard about KISS, but after visiting the institute, I am astonished to see such a large number of students here. I have never seen such an institution anywhere in India.

It is not a small matter to provide food, clothes, accommodation, healthcare facility and education free of cost to 25,000 students”, the CM of Uttar Pradesh stated. All these have been possible due to blessings of God and sincerity and relentless effort of its founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta, he added.

Shri Akhilesh Yadav and other visiting dignitaries were extended a warm welcome upon their arrival in KISS campus. Dr. Samanta delivered the welcome address, while Shri Rajendra Choudhary, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Govt. of UP, Smt. Saswati Bal, President, KIIT & KISS, Shri R. N. Dash, President and Dr. P. K. Routaray, CEO, KISS also spoke on the occasion.

Later, Shri Yadav addressed the 3rd KIIT International Model United Nations (KIIT-MUN) as the Chief Guest in KIIT University. Being held in partnership with the UNFPA and US Consulate General, Hyderabad, it is one of the largest MUNs in the world. More than 1800 delegates from leading institutions of the country like IITs, NITs, National Law Schools, JNU, etc. as well as from 20 nations are participating. The Conference has partnered with 12 of the world’s most prestigious MUNs, including Moscow International MUN, Paris International MUN, Rome MUN, Balkan MUN, Oslo MUN, Hamburg MUN, Asia Pacific MUN, MUN of The Hague.

Addressing student-delegates from various universities of India and abroad, Shri Yadav advised them to prepare themselves for the future challenges. The world will face three major challenges – climate change, food for all and affordable healthcare for all – and it is for the youths and students to think how to overcome them, he said.

Among others, His Excellency Mr. Shaida Mohammad Abdali, Ambassador of Afghanistan to India; Dr. Hameed Nuru, Representative and Country Director, World Food Programme (WFP) India; Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS; Prof. P. P. Mathur, VC, KIIT University and Dr. Sasmita Samanta, Registrar also spoke on the occasion.

It may be mentioned that Shri Akhilesh Yadav was impressed after learning about KISS Model of empowerment through education. Last year, he had invited Dr. Samanta to Lucknow to know more about KIIT and KISS. He felt that KISS model could be replicated not only in UP, but also in the entire country, so that the poorest of the poor students of the country could get quality education and they could include in the mainstream society.

At that time he had expressed desire to visit KIIT & KISS. Shri Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma, Secretary to the CM of UP; Shri Pandhary Yadav, Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Govt. of UP; Shri Gajendra Singh, Shri Jagat Singh and Shri Jainendra Singh accompanied the Chief Minister during his visit.
