IAG Odisha, OSDMA organise Consultation on GO-NGO Coordination in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Dec 24: IAG Odisha in Joint collaboration with OSDMA organised a state level consultation on GO-NGO Coordination for Disaster risk reduction.

The main aim of the consultation was to generate awareness and collecting feedback & recommendations to improve the GO- NGO coordination mechanism in Disaster Management and develop a framework to guide it.

The event was attended by wide array of individuals including Govt. officials, international Humanitarian Organsiations, UN agencies and NGO’s of different districts.

The event was inaugurated by Sj. Bijayashree Routray- Hon’ble Minister Revenue and Disaster management Department, Govt. of Odisha, PradiptaMohapatra, Special Relief Commissioner and Managing Director OSDMA Dr. Chakradhar Panda & chairperson of IAG Odisha& Honorary Secretary of IRCS Odisha state branch, Dr. Aurobindo Behera- Former Member board of Revenue, Dr.Joe Madiath, Social Entrepreneur & Founder of Gramvikas,

In his inaugural address Sri. Bijayshree Routray urged that -there is a necessity of GO-NGO coordination for disaster management especially for disaster prone states like Odisha. By praising the efforts he said IAG and OSDMA both agencies are having huge expertise and resources in different areas which could be used for managing disasters in the state.

By highlighting the efforts of NGO’s Sri.PradiptaMohapatra said- the strength of NGO’s in reaching the unreached should be done and used in partnership mode by Govt. during the time of disaster.

Duirng the event several suggestions and recommendation come out on -Awareness and sensitization on the role of NGOs in disaster management, database and mapping of NGO’s,Mechanism for Monitoring & Information sharing between NGOS & OSDMA etc. During the event several Recommendations and suggestions were come out for developing a framework on GO- NGOs Coordination Mechanism in Disaster Management.

Mr.Pravat Ranjan Mohapatra, Deputy SRC, GoO, Sri. Debabrat Patra-Regional Manager-ActionAid, Ms.Kirti Mishra state head of CRS, Dr.Jagadanad- Member Secretary- CYSD, Sri-AkshyaBiswal- Regional Manager-Oxfam and mr-N.M Prusty of CDDMASS and Many eminent personalities of Civil Society, Govt. and IAG Members participated and expressed their views and suggestions during the consultation. The event was coordinated by Dr.Kamal Lochan Mishra- Chief General Manger of OSDMA and ended with a vote of thanks by- Mr. Manoranjan Behera, coordinator of IAG Odisha.
