JSPL wins OTV CSR Awards 2015 in Bhubaneswar for Best CSR Practice

Bhubaneswar, 10th October: Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) has won OTV CSR Awards 2015 for Best Corporate Social Responsibility Practices in Odisha.  The Award has been presented by Hon’ble Minister Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram on October 9, 2015 at Bhubaneswar. Mr. Manish Kharbanda, Executive Director & Head (Mining & Minerals) received the award on behalf of JSPL.

Mr. Kharbanda in his address thanked OTV for the award. “CSR is an integral part of JSPL’s business philosophy which we pursue with passion and accoutability. We try to make a meaningful contribution towards improving the quality of life of people in and around our operational areas through mutidimensional need base sustainable projects under the able guidance of co chairperson of JSPL foundation, Smt. Shallu Jindal. I am very thankful to people of Angul and Odisha for their partnering  support ”  he said.

Besides the Award for Best CSR Practice, awards in seven categories were presented to different corporate organisations for their CSR work. A five-member jury comprising former Chief Secretary of Odisha Mr. Sudhanshu Bhusan Mishra, former Information Commissioner Mr. Jagadananda, ex-CMD NALCO Mr. CR Pradhan, former CSR Head of RSP Mr. SN Patra and Professor of XIMB Mrs. Snigdha Pattnaik selected the awardees.

Mr. Prashant Kumar Hota, JSPL’s Executive Vice-President & Head of Corporate Communication Odisha participated as a panellist in the discussion in the evening on CSR in mining area and highlighted on the need of adopting a project approach in implementation of CSR projects instead of sporadic philanthropic initiatives. “Skill building, preventive health care, education and creating sustainable livelihood options should get top priority in the CSR projects. Sustainable mining initiatives and Dist. Mineral Fund are bigger opportunities to facilitate lasting improvement in quality of life of the community living in mines vicinity,” Mr. Hota emphasised.

Mr. Dinesh Kumar Saraogi, ED and location Head of JSPL Angul said “Our CSR team is highly dedicated to the cause of sustainable development. This prestigious award inspires us to pursue work more passionately for the local community”

JSPL has been implementing a number of sustainable community development projects in the areas of Health, Education, Sanitation, and Livelihood in partnership with NHM, NACO, NABARD, DIC, ORMAS and various other Government Agencies. Some unique social initiatives implemented by JSPL are Certified Skill training of more than 2500 youth under OP Jindal Community College, Integrated watershed development in collaboration with NABARD, and the adolescent anaemia control in both Chhendipada and Banarpal block through a PPP programme ‘the Kishori Express’. For its contribution to community development, JSPL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) work has also received many National and International awards including the Golden Peacock award.
