KIIT University to host Asia’s Largest Model UN on Oct 30

KIIT International Model United Nations, hosted by one of the country’s largest private universities, after two successful editions is now on route to become Asia’s largest student run Model UN conference Scheduled to be held from 30th October to 1st November, 2015.

More than 2000 delegates from around the country and from countries around the globe, Italy, Netherlands and Greece to name a few! The event, which is a Model of the United Nations, makes delegates gain insight into the working of the world body and the dynamics of international relations by assuming the roles of UN representatives and members of other international bodies and national cabinets.

The conference is an exciting opportunity for students to debate issues that confront world leaders and to draft resolutions in response to these global issues. Following the success of the previous 2 years, this year, the conference has tied up with prestigious MUNs from around the world like Paris International MUN, Rome Model UN, MUN of The Hague, Asia Pacific Model UN Conference, Moscow MUN, Balkan MUN, Singapore MUN among others.

Thijn van Eldijk, a student of Liberal Sciences in the Netherlands who is participating in this conference said, “ I am thrilled to get this opportunity at one of the biggest Model UN conferences of Asia, and am sincerely looking forward to meeting all the delegates!”  The news of the Indian craze for MUNs has also spread far and wide it seems as Agnese Cigliano, who is completing her studies in law at the University of Naples “Federico II”, said,  “During my university path I attended several MUNs covering different roles. Now I cannot wait to witness the Indian renowned passion for MUNs”, said.

It is not all about debate though as students from across the world engage in networking through parties arranged after each day’s sessions which leads to a huge amount of cultural and knowledge exchange. Last year, KIIT International MUN played host to Mr. Rajat Sharma, Chairman and Editor-In-Chief at India TV who beguiled the students with his story of rags to riches.

When asked about the motive behind organizing such conferences, Nabadip Deb, the Secretary General of this year’s conference said, “By giving their consent to the Model UNs the student community represents the change they wish to see in the world because it is the youth which can build a safer, more just world by promoting the UN values and principles.”
