Minister inaugurates Training Programme of PWCS Secretaries

Bhubaneswar, Sep 15: A 3 day Training Programme on Financial Management, Cost Accounting and Audit for the Secretaries of Primary Weavers’ Cooperative Societies (PWCS), Odisha is being inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister for Handloom, Textiles and Handicrafts Smt. Snehangini Chhuria at Madhusudan Institute of Cooperative Management (MICM), Bhubaneswar on Monday.

Inaugurating the programme  Hon’ble Minister emphasized upon the demand of the Handloom products of Odisha inside and outside the country and the leading architects behind are the weavers of PWCS. She has also emphasized upon that at present only 479 PWCS are functional and many more are under liquidation process.

The reason for this condition may be the mindset, financial condition and the poor management of the societies. She urged upon the Secretaries to determine the reasons for such condition and ascertain the means for better livelihood of the weavers so that they can be in a position to perform better.

For the purpose both Central Government and State Government have announced several revival packages but due to poor maintenance of the records very few are eligible for such revival packages. She impressed upon the secretaries to aware the weavers about the opportunities and motivate them to perform for maintaining the reputation of the handloom industry of the State as well as for their financial uplift. She advised the participating secretaries of PWCS to concentrate upon the deliberations of these three days and clarify all the doubts which are creating bottlenecks for the growth.

Smt.ChithraArumugam, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Department of Handloom, Textiles and Handicrafts, Government of Odisha in her deliberations explained the need of Financial Management, Cost Accounting and Audit in performance of the PWCS. She assured the participating secretaries that, Department of Handloom, Textiles and Handicrafts will take all the steps to aware PWCS about all the opportunities that are available for growth of PWCS and it is the Secretaries who are to implement the same.

Director Textiles, Sri Govind Chandra Biswal while welcoming the guests, has indicated the importance of the transparent accounts for the maintenance and growth of the society. He further said that quality is the critical point in maintaining the rapport of the Industry in the country as well as abroad. Hence the Secretaries of the societies need to take proper care in maintaining the quality of the products of the society.

Sri S.Ghosh Director, MICM, proposed vote of thanks to all the guests and participating Secretaries by briefing about the activities of the Institute. Sri S. Samanta, Deputy Director, Textiles coordinated the inaugural session. The aforesaid 3-day training programme will continue till16th September 2015. It is being organized by MICM Bhubaneswar in collaboration with Directorate of Textiles, Government of Odisha. Dr. P.K.Upadhyaya, Lecturer, MICM is coordinating the programme.
