Odisha: Red Cross organises Study-cum-Training Camp for Youth Volunteers

Bhubaneswar, Dec 29: The five days State level Youth Red Cross Study-cum-training camp for Youth Red Cross Volunteers was organized at P.N.(A) College, Khurda from 24th to 28th December, 2015.  The objective of the camp was to motivate and prepare the YRC volunteers for service motivates, disciplined, dedicated and responsible citizen in the contemporary society.

In this Training Camp 359 Youth Red Cross Volunteers from 27 Districts of Odisha have participated. During these five days the Youth Red Cross Volunteers were trained on the topics such as:- History of Red Cross Movement Fundamental Principles of Red Cross, First Aid, Voluntary Blood Donation, HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, Fire Fighting, Road Safety, Global warming and climate change, Plantation . Every day in the morning the Volunteers and Counsellors practise Yoga & Pranayam and every evening the Volunteers participated in the Cultural activities.

Today, on 28.12.2015, Dr. S.C. Jamir, His Excellency, Governor, Odisha & President, IRCS-OSB graced the Valedictory function as the Chief Guest and addressed that Red Cross is an organization which gives you ample opportunities of volunteering and service. He greatly appreciated the efforts taken by Youth Red Cross volunteers at the hard times by reaching out to the vulnerable on Super Cyclone as well as in the joyous occasion by rendering social services at Rath Yatra.

Dr. Chakradhar Panda, Honorary Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch(IRCS-OSB) and Secretary, Youth Red Cross, Odisha extended a warm welcome and encouraged the Youth Red Cross Volunteers to commit themselves for the betterment of the Society & to be good human beings voluntarily serving the most vulnerable sections of our Society.

Sri Jyotindra Nath Mitra, President, Governing Body,P.N.(A) College, Khurda joined as Guest of Honour and expressed that the youth has the key role to play in bringing about these reforms in society. YRC will be a great platform for the youth volunteers by taking up environmental issues like global warming and climate change through plantation programmes in their respective areas.

Dr. Maj.Kalpana Das, Youth Red Cross Officer presented a brief report of the Camp and coordinated the programme. Dr. Choudhury Pratap Kumar Das, Principal, P.N.(A) College, Khurda offered the vote of thanks on this occasion.

Merit certificates and awards were given to the participants qualified in different competitions i.e. G.K, Quiz, Poster, and Debate Competitions organized during the five days camp along with Best Youth Red Cross Volunteers awarded by the Chief Guest.
