SPIC MACAY organises 1st Rural School Intensive in Odisha

SPIC MACAY is organising its 1st Rural School Intensive (RSI) for the first time in Odisha for about 500 rural high school children and 100 art teachers from 22nd -28th December 2014 at the Institute of Physics in Bhubaneswar.

There will be a week long series of programs of classical Music, Dance, Folk, Theater, Films, Yoga and Talks by eminent artists.

About 100 artistes and craftsmen from various genres of music, dance, folk, theater and craft would inspire the participants through their performances, intensives and workshops. The RSI end with the heritage walks to the places of heritage value in the Bhubaneswar.

On this special occasion, Minister of School and Mass Education Debi Prasad Mishra, Minister of Culture and Tourism Ashok Panda along with other dignitaries including founder – Chairperson Dr. Kiran Seth of SPIC MACAY have inaugurated the function.

Among other Rashmi Mallick, Director – SPIC MACAY, Sushil Kumar Dash Director -Culture, Priyadarshi Mishra, MLA- Bhubaneswar, Prof Debendra Nath Jena, vice Chancellor, Utkal University of Culture, also present on this occasion.

BKS Ayengar (Yoga), Adyar K Lakshman (Bharatnatyam), Zohra Sehgal (film), U R Anathamurthy (writer) and Olav Dale (Composer -Saxophonist), Sitara Dev (Kathak) and U Srinivas (Mandolin) and others would grace the occasion.

The objective of the workshop to provide the participants with an intense experience of particular art-form with a renowned master, so that they may have a life-long interest in the same and provide the children with the opportunity to experience the divine influence of our living heritage.

The RSI is being organised under four year collaboration between SPIC MACAY and Government of Odisha with RIKSKONSERTENE of Norway.

The program is coordinated by a Task Force set up by Government of Odisha chaired by Secretary – Department of Culture and Tourism with Secretary – OSNA, Vice Chancellor Culture University, Director – Secondary etc. are members of the committee. As a part of the program SPIC MACAY will conduct activities in Government schools across the state and organise training for art teachers and Rural School Intensives.
