Trade Union Representatives on Social Protection Floor

Bhubaneswar, June 6: International Labour Organization (ILO) has organized a state level workshop for “Trade union representatives on Social Protection Floor” at Hotel crown conference hall on 3rd & 4th June, 2015.

Reorganized the social security is an important tool to prevent and reduce poverty, inequality, social exclusion and social insecurity, to promote equal opportunity and gender and racial equality and to support the transition from informal and formal employment.

Considering the social security is an investment in people that empowers them to adjust to change in the economy, labour market and the social security system act as automatic and economic stabilizers, help stimulate aggregate demand in time of crisis and beyond, and help support a transition to a more sustainable economy.

Considering that the prioritization of policies aimed at sustainable long term growth associated with social inclusion helps overcome extreme poverty and reduce social inequalities

Labour in un- organized sector has been exploited and govt. scheme has to be really reached its bottom level

Ranjit Prakash – National Project Coordinator, (Social Protection -ILO, New Delhi) has delivered regarding Trade Union representatives on Establishing Social Protection Floor in odisha – and minimum income and health security for vulnerable labours .Limited impact on lives of tribal population as most of the districts observed discriminatory practices in allotting work, otherwise +ve     impact on food grain consumption: in a study conducted in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha, most sample households reported that had MGNREGA not been implemented in the study      areas, most of the households would not have had the capacity to purchase enough food grains. Average wage for females have to increase. Failed to curtail distressed migration.
