Over 20 senior Congress leaders have written to party president Sonia Gandhi seeking revamp and ‘leadership changes’ of the party.

Sonia Gandhi received the letter on Independence Day, as per reports in the national media. Five former Chief Ministers, sitting MPs and several former Union Ministers have written the letter, sources said.

Some of the signatories of the letter include former Union Ministers Kapil Sibal, Manish Tewari and Shashi Tharoor. Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad have also signed.

In the letter, the leaders acknowledged the steady decline of the Congress since 2014 elections and calls for leadership change. As per Indian Express report, the letter to Sonia Gandhi calls for a “full time and effective leadership” which is both “visible and active.” It also called for an “institutional leadership mechanism to collectively guide” the party’s makeover.
