Pediatrician Dr. Kafeel Khan was released at midnight from Mathura jail after Allahabad High Court quashed his detention, terming it illegal. The High Court, on Tuesday, had quashed detention under National Security Act and ordered his immediate release.
Dr. Kafeel Khan was arrested on January 29, for his speech at anti-CAA protest in Aligarh Muslim University. The Court, while pronouncing the verdict, said that his speech did not promote hatred or violence, but a call towards national integrity.
“A complete reading of the speech prima facie does not disclose any effort to promote hatred or violence. It also no where threatens peace and tranquility of the city of Aligarh”
