Hathras Rape: Cops Cremate Body; CM Orders SIT Probe

TheUP Government ordered a three-member SIT to probe the horrific Hathras rape case. The SIT will submit the report within a week.

The 20-year old rape victim had passed away on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. She was cremated by police around 2.30am.

As per reports in the national media, the UP Police allegedly denied the family to take a last look of their daughter and took her mortal remains straight for cremation. Reports suggest the parent’s had requested the police to carry out the cremation on Wednesday morning.

This is not the first time the family has alleged misconduct by the UP Police. The family had said that the police denied to register case despite their complaint. They filed a murder case and charged rape only after formal complaint by the woman. The rape charges are not confirmed, a senior UP police official had also said in a statement.

The administration announced a compensation of Rs 10lakh for the family.

The case drew parallel with the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape case. The woman was brutally raped for several weeks and her tongue was cut by four men of upper caste. They four men have been arrested.

The opposition has attacked the UP Government over lawlessness.
