Sonia Gandhi Likely to offer resignation at CWC Meeting Today

Congress President Sonia Gandhi is likely to offer resignation from her post at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting today. The meeting is scheduled to be held at 11am.

Earlier, 23 senior leaders of the party had shot a letter to her, seeking leadership changes to revive the party.

In the letter, the senior Congress leaders raised concern over the steady decline of the party since 2014 elections. As per Indian Express report, the letter to Sonia Gandhi calls for a “full time and effective leadership” which is both “visible and active.” It also called for an “institutional leadership mechanism to collectively guide” the party’s makeover.

Sources say that the development has upset the Congress President and is likely to offer her resignation. However, spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala has refuted such claims.

The CWC had appointed Sonia Gandhi as the interim president of the party in August 2019. She succeeded after her son Rahul Gandhi stepped down from the post after the Lok Sabha election results.
