The incident at the Chhatrasal stadium led to strong reactions from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which termed it a “misuse” of the Independence Day celebrations. “Arvind Kejriwal is surrounded by sycophants so he thinks he is a God”, said expelled AAP leader Prashant Bhushan.
Later, Kejriwal clarified in a tweet, “Some school students made visual formation of my name during Independence Day celebrations. I was not at all aware that students would do this. I am told it has been a practice in Delhi Government to form visual formation of whoever chief guest is (CM or LG). I agree this is a wrong practice. I will stop this practice forthwith”.
Even if Kejriwal did not know about it, Delhi Government officials and authorities knew it. They even did rehearsals for it. So, why not tender an apology and then take action against the officials? Of course, it’s not mandatory in Government Rule Book. Kejriwal’s excuse that “we did, as they did it”, did not go well with the people, as he had come to politics to change the system.
