Modi Govt may consider UBI to offer cash benefits to Farmers, Unemployed

ONI Bureau:  In an effort to reduce poverty, Modi Government may soon introduce a Universal Basic Income (UBI) scheme, an alternative to the various social welfare schemes.

Based on a survey on misallocation of resources and misutilisation of schemes in state & district levels, Govt thinks that a more efficient way to help the poor would be to provide them resources directly.

The Government will transfer a stipulated amount into the bank accounts of poor people who are unable to earn money. It could be around Rs 2,000 – 2,500 in a month.

UBI will be more efficient means to help a large number of poor people, including small and marginal farmers, an alternative way of a universal loan waiver. The unemployed youth will also get benefited from the scheme.
