No Edition of The Hindu Today – 1st time in 137 Years

One of the oldest newspapers of India, The Hindu, failed to print an edition today due to heavy rains and waterlogging in Chennai. This is the first time since 1878 or in its 137 years of history, The Hindu had to stop any edition.

Heavy rains forced suspension of flights and cancellation of trains in Chennai, as the situation remains grim. Chennai rains broke 100 years of record. People remain without power and communication.

At least 15 NDRF teams have been dispatched by the centre to help the Army, which is already engaged in the rescue operation. Schools and colleges have been shut, while thousands of people are stranded in various parts of the city. Over 180 people have died in rains and floods so far.
