60 Tribal Families flee Homes in Odisha’s Malkangiri District

About 60 tribal families in Odisha’s Malkangiri districts fled their homes and sought protection from the district administration. The villagers hailed from Andrapalli and Panaspur villages in the cutoff area of Chitrakonda block of the district.

The villagers met District SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra and requested him to provide them adequate security, as they face grave threat from the Maoists. According to them, they were forced to leave their villages after the Maoists killed two villagers suspecting them to be police informers and set some of the houses on fire.

They further alleged that the Maoists have been torturing innocent tribals and asking them to stay away from police and government officials. The police in collaboration with the district administration, have decided to rehabilitate these displaced villagers.

In addition, vocation training is being organised for them to make them able to earn their living without depending on anyone. The Maoists have however, alleged that the police have taken away the villagers, using dirty tricks.
