60th Foundation Day of Odisha Khadi Board Celebrated in Bhubaneswar

The Odisha Khadi & Village Industries Board celebrated its 60th Foundation Day in Bhubaneswar today. The Foundation Day ceremony was inaugurated by veteran freedom fighter and former Lok Sabha MP Bhabani Charan Patnaik. “The India of Gandhiji’s dreams would be possible only through the promotion of Khadi and Gram Udyog and Odisha must take the lead”, he said.

The ceremony was held at Jayadev Bhavan in Bhubaneswar this morning. Housing and Urban Development Minister Pushpendra Singhdeo was the Chief Guest. He stressed on the need on improvement in design and development of Khadi to make increase its acceptability. Junagarh MLA Captain Divyashankar Mishra too said that Khadi must be utilised properly as a strong medium of self-employment.

Among others, Bhubaneswar North MLA Priyadarshi Mishra, Bhubaneswar Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena and former Minister Surendra Nath Nayak participated in the discussion and highlighted the importance of Khadi in today’s society. Tejeshwar Parida, President of Odisha Khadi and Village Industries Board, assured everyone that the Khadi Board will play an important role in the development of rural economy.

The Board had also organised a seminar on the topic, ‘Khadi and Village Industries in Odisha: Past, Present and Future’. It was attended by Kailash Mishra, Vice Chancellor of Sri Sri University, Aditya Patnaik, All India Convenor of Sarvodaya Chetanna Samaj and many others. Many proposals to develop Khadi and Village Industries in Odisha further and populrise it in rural areas, have been given by the Speakers.
