Chief Secretary AP Padhi had written a letter to Rajiv Nayan Choubey, Secretary of Civil Aviation for the establishment of air cargo facilities at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) to facilitate the export of fresh live and chilled fishery items to international markets.
Odisha is a leading producer and contributor to the seafood export. Around 4.67 lakh metric tonne (LMT) of fish was produced in the year 2014-15, the State has exported 34,767 LMT valuing Rs 2, 070 crore, which is higher by 12.26 per cent in volume and 14 per cent in value compared to 2013-14.
Odisha’s seafood is highly in demand in the major foreign markets like South East Asia, USA, European Union and Japan.
