Biju Patnaik Airport to carry out 24-hour Services from September

The state’s aviation sector is all set to get a major boost with Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar gearing up for 24-hour services from the month of September.

The additional infrastructure and manpower required for the same have been acquired. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has cleared the proposal of inducting 30 more staffs for the security of the airport, said airport director R Mahalingam.

The idea of round-the-clock services at the airport was discussed for the first time in the year 2013 in a meeting in Kolkata where the AAI authorities had agreed to the proposals.

The 24-hour services will increase the importance of the aviation sector in the state and Bhubaneswar will become a nearest alternative airport for Kolkata in case of emergency. This facility will also make the airport as a busy airport which will in turn help to attract more fliers to the state.

The Indigo airlines has showed interest to run three more flights after the 24-hour services begin from September 12.
