A six-member BJP delegation met Odisha Governor Dr. SC Jamir at the Raj Bhavan today and apprised him of the precarious drought situation in Western Odisha. The delegation included BJP’s state unit President KV Singhdeo, Bijoy Mohapatra and Pratap Sarangi.

A BJP fact-finding team recently visited 5 districts. They met various people and farmers in 56 places of 12 blocks in those districts. Acting on the report of the committee, the delegation submitted a six-point demand to the Governor.

Their demands included immediate assessment of drought situation, adequate compensation to farmers, repairing of defunct LI machines, announcement of loan waiver to affected farmers, assistance for Rabi crop and insurance cover without premium.

The BJP leaders told the Governor that at least 9 districts of Odisha are reeling under severe drought conditions due to less rain. Sambalpur, Bolangir, Kalahandi and Nuapada are worst affected.
