Block Grant Teachers Stir ends, Classes to resume from Today

Bhubaneswar, Sep 28: Month-long stir called by the block grant teachers was finally ended with the intervention of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday and the teachers’ body agreed to resume classes from Monday. Teachers have been demanding salary as per grant-in-aid policy instead of block grant mode. Sunday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra discussed with the teachers’ body.

Block grant teachers after getting assurance from the chief minister called off their strike as well as the scheduled ‘protest padayatra’ in Hinjili assembly segment in Ganjam district. The strike by teachers of around 4,000 block grant schools had affected the studies of around five lakh students in the state. After the strike is over, the classes at the schools will be started from Monday.
