Cuttack Bus Tragedy Update: 10 Dead, 50 Injured; 7 in ICU

ONI Bureau: Although the reports last night had put the death toll in Cuttack Bus Tragedy at 12, the SCB Medical College and Hospital authorities confirmed this morning that 10 people died in the mishap and 50 others were injured. 7 out of them are very critical and being treated at the ICU.

Out of the 50 injured, 8 have opted to get treatment at the private hospitals. Remaining 42 are at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. A special Team of 5 Doctors has been constituted to treat the injured.

Health Minister Pratap Jena, who was in Delhi, rushed back to Odisha last night and then went to SCB in Cuttack to meet the injured. He is personally monitoring the situation at CM’s directive.

CM Naveen Patnaik has already ordered an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of all deceased and free treatment at govt hospital for all injured.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan along with senior BJP leaders, including Bhrugu Baxipatra had visited SCB last night and enquired about the health condition of the injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and PCC President Niranjan Patnaik have expressed their grief over the tragedy and offered their condolences to the bereaved people while wishing speedy recovery to the injured.

It can be recalled that the incident occurred when a private bus, ‘Jagannath’ fell off the Mahanadi bridge on the outskirts of Cuttack last evening. The bus was on its way to Cuttack from Talcher.
