Devotees throng Puri to offer ‘Paya Shraddha’ to ancestors on Diwali

ONI Bureau:   Thousands of Hindu devotees throng Jagannath Dham Puri to offer ‘Paya Shraddha’ (sincere offerings) to their departed ancestors on Diwali on Wednesday.

The sacred 22 steps of Srimandir echoed with ‘Badabadua Ho Andharare Aasa, Aalua Re Jao’ (Oh forefathers, come in darkness and go back in light) since morning on the occasion of Diwali today.

It is believed that ancestors will come down on earth during ‘pitrupakhya’ and go back to their heavenly on Diwali.

However a habishyali aged around 80-years-old, sustained critical injuries in a stampede due to heavy rush inside the JagannathTemple early this morning.  She was rushed to Puri District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
