Bhubaneswar, Dec 14: In an endeavor to eliminate filaria Odisha government has planned to start launch an extensive mass drug administration (MDA) drive from December 19. The MDA drive will be implemented in 10 districts – Angul, Boudh, Bhadrak, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Jharsuguda and Nayagarh. The state government aimed to cover 1.03 crore population across in these 10 districts. In order to carry out the drive around 26,000 Asha workers and volunteers will be engaged. Indian government has set 2017 as target to eliminate filaria from the country.
