First Swine Flu Case confirmed in Odisha

The Odisha Government has urged the people not to panic even as the first Swine Flu case has been confirmed in the state. The government is making all efforts to prevent the disease and take effective steps to restore confidence of people.

The 65-year-old man from Balipatna in Khordha district, AB Ahmed, is undergoing treatment at an isolated ward in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was tested positive for H1N1 virus. Family members of the patient, doctors and other medical staff who came in contact with him, have been given preventive tablets.

A high level meeting chaired by Health Secretary Arti Ahuja decided to brief Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) about Swine Flu readiness through video-conferencing. It was also decided to caution all private medical colleges and hospitals.

The State government has adequate stock of medicines to face all challenges, said the government. People, who suffer from regular flu with symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, vomiting and fatigue, should be careful and go for immediate tests. Many states such as Telangana and Delhi have already reported Swine Flu deaths this season.
