Govt asks AAI, Collector to complete Jharsuguda Airport in Scheduled time

Odisha Chief Secretary A P Padhi reviewed the progress of the airport at a high level meeting and directed the AAI executants, Jharsuguda District Collector and other officials to complete the works within scheduled time.

The development process of Jharsuguda Airport which is being developed jointly by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and Odisha government has targeted to complete the work by June 2018, said an official on Tuesday.

Padhi said, majority of the land related issues has been resolved. AAI has been handed over 106.23 acres out of which 51.8 acres are government land and 54.43 acres are private land.

Notably, The State government had signed an agreement with AAI on July 30, 2014, to develop the airstrip at an estimated cost of Rs 210 crore to make it the state’s second largest operational airport, after Biju Patnaik International Airport.

According to the official sources, the state government would fund Rs 75 crore and AAI would provide the remaining Rs 135 crore to develop the airport.
