Govt cracks Whip; Warring CBI Officers sent on Leave, Nageshwar Rao takes charge

ONI Bureau:  In a shocking development, the Cabinet Committee has appointed joint director with CBI M Nageshwar Rao as interim director of the investigative agency with immediate effect.

The ACC headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ordered that Rao shall look after duties and functions of Director CBI. Meanwhile CBI chief Alok Verma, his deputy Rakesh Asthana and several other officers have been sent on leave.

The order comes after the Director CBI and Special Director levelled charges against each other.

M Nageshwar Rao, a 1986 batch Indian Police Service officer of the Orissa cadre, hails from Telangana’s Warangal district. The CBI building, which was earlier reported to be sealed, has now been opened and Nageshwar Rao took charge around 2am on Wednesday.
