Low Pressure Rains play havoc in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

By Rakesh Gupta, Nabarangpur (16.09.2015): Heavy rains triggered by low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, have thrown the normal life out of gear. There has been no respite from rains for the last 48 hours. Many areas in and around Nabarangpur have reported severe waterlogging. The rain water entered into the houses of many people in Chintla Peta, Goudo Street, Jamal Colony and many other areas in the town.

Almost all roads connecting to Nabarangpur have been cut off and rivers are on spate. The road connections between Nabarangpur-Papadahandi, Dabugam-Papadahandi and Nabarangpur-Indravati are closed due to overflowing water on the road.

The China Market and Chamuriaguda areas in Nabarangpur have witnessed waterlogging.  In the last 24 hours, Tentulikhunti block has witnessed 278mm rainfall, followed by Nandahandi (219mm), Jharrigam (210mm), Chandahandi (190mm), Nabarangpur (189mm), Papadahandi (148mm), Umerkote (88mm), Kosagumuda (86mm) and Raighar (81mm).

The water level in Indravati Reservoir was reported at 632.49m just below the danger level of 642mt. According to latest reports, the Nabarangpur District HQ Hospital has sustained some damages. The newborn care unit reported a leakage from the roof.
