ONI Bureau: Around 90 houses were gutted after a major fire outbreak at Geta slum near Biju Patnaik Park in Berhampur town at 11am on Thursday.
The slum dwellers demanded compensation as properties to the tune of several lakhs were destroyed in the blaze. However, no casualties have been reported so far.
Reportedly, a cooking gas cylinder kept in one of the houses allegedly exploded and the fire broke out and it spread to other houses.
