Nandankanan Loses Binny, The Only Orangutan Of India

Binny, the only Orangutan of India is no more! Binny was an inmate of Nandankanan Zoological Park suffering from a wound in her throat since a long time and was under treatment by the experts from College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry OUAT with the support and advices by Orangutan experts from UK and Singapore.


According to Zoo officials, Binny died at 9.40 pm on Wednesday and was 41 year old at the time of her death.


Previously, animal lovers from all over the world had come forward to offer help and had suggested all possible treatments to save her life.

Binny was first brought to Pune’s Rajiv Gandhi Zoological in India from Singapore and later shifted from to Nandankanan Zoological Park on November 20, 2003, when she was only 25 years old. Though the exact cause of Binny’s death
Though the exact cause of Binny’s death is not known, it is assumed that her deteriorating condition must be the reason. Postmortem report will ascertain the cause.
