Nizamuddin returnee attack and capture government officials in Jajpur, Odisha

In Odisha’s Jajpur district, three Nizamuddin returnee headed a crowd of villagers in assaulting two state government officials and held them captive. The three were later arrested and transferred for quarantine. The episode took place at Gopinathpur village under Kuakhia police station when district collector Ranjan Kumar Das and other authorities were supervising the implementation of the lockdown rules and compulsory wearing of masks by residents of the area.

“When the BDO and the tehsildar were checking people on the streets, three unmasked men in a motorbike did not stop and fled to Gopinathpur village,” the collector narrated.

When the two officers tracked them to the village, the trio supposedly led a crowd to attack the officers and held them captive, police said. Later, policemen reached the place and rescued the officers, Das said.
