In a first, Odisha has bagged two National Awards in the Swachh Survekshan-2020, organised by Union Ministry of Housing and Urban affairs. Housing & Urban Development Department, of Government of Odisha bagged the “Fastest Moving State Award” at the National level. The other award was accorded to Berhampur Municipal Corporation in the category of “Innovation Award.”
The state award was received by Pratap Jena, Minister, Housing & Urban Development and G Mathi Vathanan, Principal Secretary, H & UD Department. The awards ceremony was held virtually during “Swachh Mohatshav” held in New Delhi on Thursday.
Collector Ganjam received the award on behalf of Berhampur Municipal Corporation.
Decentralised treatment & processing in Micro Composting Centres & Material Recovery Facilities, converting bio-degradable waste to organic manure (Mo Khata) and non-bio-degradable waste to recyclable waste and decentralised septage management with active involvement of Mission Sakti Members are some of the key features of Odisha’s transformative sanitation journey to achieve Swachh Odisha – Sustha Odisha.
