Odisha ‘Best Performing State’ in Malaria Eradication

ONI Bureau:  The World Health Organisation has published its World Malaria Report for 2018 according to which India have seen significant progress in terms of Malaria eradication among the 11 highest burden countries.

India has recorded 24% reduction in Malaria cases in 2017 compared to 2016 with Odisha emerging as the best performing state in its fight against Malaria.

As per WHO report, malaria cases declined from 3,23,800 in 2017 (January-September) to 55,365 in 2018 along with a drop in deaths to single digits in Odisha.

However the report said that as many as 1.25 billion Indians still remain at the risk of getting diagnosed with malaria.
