Recently, Pradhan had urged the affluent sections of the society not to accept subsidy and pay full for their LPG cylinders so that it can benefit the nation and poor people. Many top employees of the Oil companies too supported the Minister and decided not to take any subsidy.
The BJP MLAs, who decided to give up subsidy on their LPG, include Basant Panda (Nuapada), KV Singhdeo (Patnagarh), Dilip Ray (Rourkela), Pradip Purohit (Padampur), Radharani Panda (Brajarajnagar), Rabinarayan Nayak (Kuchinda), Nitesh Gangdeb (Deogarh), Gobindra Chandra Das (Remuna), Bibhuti Bhushan Harichandan (Chilika) and Duryodhan Majhi (Khariar).
Basant Panda and KV Singhdeo have already changed their connections into non-subsidised domestic LPG connections. Consumers are currently entitled to get twelve 14.2 kg LPG cylinders at subsidised rates. While a subsidised LPG cylinder is available in Bhubaneswar at Rs 430.50, non-subsidised cylinders are available at Rs 720.
