Odisha Cabinet nod to 14 Proposals, hikes VAT on Foreign Liquor

The State Cabinet meeting on Tuesday held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik begins at the State Secretariat. Odisha Cabinet approved 14 proposals.

Area of Highlights:

  • Cabinet approves establishment of Odisha Model Schools in all 314 Blocks of State. The State government will spend Rs 2600 crores for the next five years.
    Cabinet nod to VAT cut, from 5% to 1%, on pulses for three months on trial basis. VAT cut to be effective from July 1.
  • Proposal for creating 500 new posts of doctors in Health Department has also been given green signal by the cabinet.
  • Odisha Cabinet approves proposal to One Time Settlement of IPICOL.
  • Cabinet nod to amendment in VIMSAR (Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research) Act. Vacancies in VIMSAR will be filled after promulgation of ordinance regarding this.
  • New recruitment rule for Odisha Civil Supply Corporation has also been approved by the cabinet.
  • Odisha Cabinet has approved an increase of 10 % VAT on foreign liquor from the current 25% to 35%
  • Facilities for transferring the balance dues from GRIDCO to NTPC has also been given cabinet nod.
  • Proposal for creating 500 new posts of doctors in Health Department has also been given green signal by the cabinet.
  • The VAT on fashionable and expensive products increased to 14.5% from existing 13.5%.
  • Cabinet approved the proposal of Health and Family Welfare department on relaxation of rules for recruitment of AYUSH assistants.
  • Cabinet approved exemption of VAT on input materials for Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana
  • The proposal for simplification of long-term linkage policy of the mines also approved
  • Cabinet approved the amendment of the Odisha Professional Education (OPE) Act thereby empowering the State Government to decide on the method of admission in the Engineering colleges.
