Odisha Chief Secretary inaugurates Green Building Features of GAA

Bhubaneswar, 4th July: ​Chief Secretary Sri Gokul Chandra Pati inaugurated green building features of Gopabandhu Academy of Administration (GAA) today in its campus. Sri Pati also planted trees in the campus along with the IAS probationer batch of 2014.

Director General of GAA Sri Ashok Kumar Tripathy outlined various components of the commissioned projects. This included the Stand alone solar lights in the campus, solar hot water supply to Bramhani and Baitarani Hostel, Solar power system in the main building, water harvesting structures in the hostels, Swagat building and main building.

Reviewing the construction technology of these projects, Chief Secretary Sri Pati advised the Academy to incorporate water harvesting construction technology in the training curriculum of the academy for engineers and administrators.

​Explaining the rain water harvesting structures, DG Sri Tripathy said that these rain water harvesting structures would recharge the ground water through 5 nos of recharge wells already made functional inside the campus.

These wells would recharge about 3531.19 cum water to the ground each year. The campus would be lighted through the solar light systems. Solar panels have been laid over 2865 sqm on the roof top of the hostels, main building and Swagat building. Chief Secretary Sri Pati has advised the academy to construct structures for harvesting the run off ground water during rainy seasons and recharge those to the ground water.

Sri Pati has also advised the academy to monitor ground water level of the academy area each year. Chief advised the Probation officers undergoing training and other senior officers of the academy to update their knowledge with fast changing building, road and underground sewerage construction technology.

These, added Sri Pati, would help them in monitoring such projects at filed level and completing those within stipulated time period in most cost effective manner. It may be pertinent here to mention that Odisha is a leading State in preparation and implementation of Climate Change Action Plan. The green features inaugurated today at GAA form a part of this action plan.
