Odisha Farmer’s Son cracks Civil Services 2014 with 1079th Rank

At least 27 candidates from Odisha cleared the Civil Services Exam this year, which was a record. But, notable among them, is a person, whose farmer father sold off his land to give him proper education and training. And, he did not let him down. Hrudaya Kumar Das (28) cracked the Civil Services 2014 with 1079 rank.

Hrudaya, who hails from a remote village in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, had appeared in the Civil Services examinations twice, but failed. He did not give up neither his father. Finally, he did it in his third attempt.

Hrudaya’s father owns 1.5 acre of irrigated farmland. He had to sell off part of the land to meet his son’s educational expenses. They belong to the BPL (Below Poverty Line) category. It’s not that his father spent the money only on his education. Even, Hrudaya’s younger brother Rashmi Ranjan Das is studying MBA today because of their father’s efforts and determination.

Hrudaya had completed five-year integrated MCA from Utkal University. He had been working as a Prime Minister Rural Development Fellow (PMRDF) in Jaipur and was assigned with the task of interacting tribals in naxal areas and oversee the implementation of poverty alleviation and welfare programmes. He was appointed as Assistant Commandant in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) only last month.

Hrudaya did well in studies in primary and high school level, but passed out second class in plus two science. He was more focused on cricket and even represented Kendrapara district team in Kalahandi Cup. However, later, shifted his focus to studies and rest is history.
