Odisha Govt launches Biju Sishu Surakshya Yojana

The government of Odisha on Thursday launched the Biju Sishu Suraksha Yojana (BSSY) to empower children who are without biological or adoptive parents, legal guardians, affected with HIV and found to be most vulnerable in the state.

Launching the scheme in Bhubaneswar, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced that the State Government will bear the educational expense of these children and provide them scholarship for higher education among other benefits.

Patnaik said, scholarship will be provided to top three meritorious students in each district under the scheme. Besides, Rs 20,000 will be provided to each such student who will pass the HSC examination.

In addition, the girl beneficiaries will be facilitated with Sukanya accounts and the state government will provide financial support at the time of their marriage.
