Odisha records 53% Growth in Exports in 2013-14

Odisha has beaten global slowdown in mineral market by boosting up its export in non-mineral sectors like marine, electronics, software and metallurgical products. The export performance during 2013-14 has registered a record growth of 53% over last year with total export of worth Rs 18,780 cr. against the total export of worth Rs 12,245 cr. during 2012-13. This has come to light in the State Level Empowered Committee Meeting held under Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sri Gokul Chandra Pati in secretariat conference hall this morning.

Reviewing the ongoing projects and export performance,  Chief Secretary Sri Pati has directed to expedite  implementation of export supporting infrastructure development projects sanctioned under ASIDE ( Assistance to States for Developing Export Infrastructure & Allied Activities) scheme. At present, 10 such schemes are under various stages of implementation in the State.  The Committee has sanctioned 2 new projects in the meeting today.

Available data shows that export performance of Odisha has followed an upward trend over last five years with various Governmental assistance and support. The total export in the year 2009-10 was around 12,600 cr which slowed down slightly to Rs 12,245 cr during 2012-13 because of global slowdown particularly in mineral and steel sectors.

Secretary MS&ME Sri Panchanana Das said that because of supporting export policy of the State, 62% the total export during 2013-14   has come from metallurgical, marine , electronics and software.  This increase in non-mineral sectors has filled up the gap created by global slowdown in mineral sector.

During 2013-14, the export in metallurgical products have been to the tune of Rs7,677 cr , export in  marine products have  been  Rs1699 cr and export in electronics & software have been boosted up to Rs2,300 cr. The export performance in engineering chemical and allied sectors have been Rs 3531 cr, The export in service sector like tourism has also added Rs10 cr to the total export performance.

The state has taken up 29 infrastructure development projects for supporting export activities. Secretary Sri Das said that out of these 19 projects have already been completed and 10 are in various stages of implementation.

These ongoing projects include establishment of 132 KV line with 132/33kv substation for Daitari Iron ore Project, Construction of an ITES/BPO Tower in Bhubaneswar, Development of Auto Park at Mania village in Cuttack district, Info valley  project for Infocity-II SEZ, setting up common pre-processing center at Dhamara fishing harbor, improvement of approach road to Balaramgadi fishing center, Chandipur in Balasore district, creation of IT incubation center in the Infocity IT/ITES SEZ, Chandaka, establishment of World Trade Center at Bhubaneswar, establishment of Allumiium Park at Angul and establishment of incubation center with allied facilities in ITES SEZ ( Knowledge park) at Goudakasipur in Khurda district.

Chief Secretary has directed the implementing agencies to expedite the process of implementation. Time lines with mile stones of the work have been set for each project.  The committee has approved 2 new projects with estimated investment of around 101 cr . These include establishment of Apparel Park at Kurki in Khordha district with project outlay of 274 lakhs, and establishment of multi-modal logistic park at Jahrsuguda with project outlay of 9838 lakhs.
