Open Top Leopard Enclosure inaugurated at Nandankanan

On the occasion of 55th Foundation Day of Nandankanan Zoological Park on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar yesterday, an Open Top Leopard Enclosure as well as a ‘walk through aviary’ for Birds, were unveiled by Odisha Forest and Environment Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh.

The Open Top Leopard Enclosure is first of its kind in India and Odisha is proud to have it. These two new enclosures have been made public from today. Built in an area of 1150 sq km, the leopard enclosure is protected by an 18-feet boundary wall. In addition, a 20-feet distance has been made between the enclosure and visitors’ place to ensure safety.

The zoo authorities have already released three leopards inside the leopard enclosure. The ‘walk through aviary’ showcases a variety of bird species and number of water fountains.

Among others, Principal Chief Conservation of Forests (PCCF), Wildlife, Bhubaneswar, SS Srivastava, Director of Nandankanan Zoo Sudarsan Panda, deputy director Jayant Dash, assistant director Kamalalochan Purohit, Assistant director and other senior officials of the zoo were present on the occasion.
