People celebrates victory of Good over Evil on Dussehra

ONI Bureau:  Vijayadashmi or Dussehra celebrated with religious fervour across Odisha and all over India on Friday. The festival signifies victory of good over evil. Dussehra is celebrated on the 10th day of the month of Ashvin.

Dussehra is observed differently in different parts of the country.

Significance

Dussehra is derived from the Sanskrit words “dasha” and “hara” which mean “ten” and “defeat” respectively. It is believed that on this day Lord Rama killed the demon King Ravana

In Odisha & West Bengal, Dussehra is celebrated as the victory of Goddess Durga (Shakti) over the demon king Mahishasura. Women are performing ‘Sindura Khela’ at various puja mandap on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami.
