Pradhan asks Odisha Govt to form Joint Regulatory Board on Mahanadi issue

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday advice Odisha Government to form a Joint Control Board with Chhattisgarh government on Mahanadi issue.

It is to be noted that, the agreement on Mahanadi water, signed between the then Odisha Chief Minister Janaki Ballav Patnaik and the then Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Arjun Singh in 1983.

Pradhan slammed the Odisha Government for not forming a joint control board according to that agreement.

Dharmendra Pradhan said that due to inactiveness of the Odisha Government, dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh over Mahanadi waters has created.

Further, Pradhan adviced Odisha government to form a Joint Control Board soon. He advised the State government that if required, Odisha should take help of the Central Water Commission (CWC) in this water issue.

Notably, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a letter to advise the Chhattisgarh government to stop the unilateral construction of dams across Mahanadi River on July 4.
